I made a set of three nesting wooden figures that fit perfectly into one another. Think Russian dolls but two dimensional. This is an experimental Woodcut Reaction Piece I created that explores the idea of Safe Spaces. By translating my illustrative voice into the medium of wood, I wanted to create something that has a point of view, is interactive and meaningful. I was thinking about comfort and nesting and how we go within to find comfort in the different versions of ourselves. I chose a set of three nested figures with distinctive body languages to represent the three versions of self -the protective, the recluse; the sassy free inner-self.
